A Las Vegas man took a plea deal Tuesday and will avoid a murder trial in the November slaying of his girlfriend.
Michael Treadwell, 28, entered an Alford plea to voluntary manslaughter in the death of Anais Plant, 26, whose body was found in a burned-out apartment. The Alford plea means Treadwell did not admit guilt but acknowledged that prosecutors could prove their case against him.
As part of the deal, prosecutors dropped a murder and arson charge against Treadwell.
A sentencing hearing was set for May 24 before District Judge Jerry Tao.
Treadwell is being held at the Clark County Detention Center on $20,000 bail.
Neighbors told Las Vegas police they heard a couple arguing about 2 a.m. Nov. 7 in an apartment at 1701 N. J St., near H Street and Owens Avenue. Later, after Treadwell loaded clothes and other items into his SUV and left, neighbors noticed smoke coming from the apartment, police said.
Treadwell denied killing Plant. He told police they had been arguing, and he said he was moving out, a police report said.
A week before her death, Plant and Treadwell were involved in a domestic violence incident.
